About Shoreline Elementary

Welcome to Shoreline Elementary, home of Whitehall's Young 5/kindergarten through second grade students. Shoreline Elementary was built in 1994 with the young child in mind. The school is split into 4 academic wings, each with a large common area that can be used for a variety of activities ranging from large-motor activities, to small group or one-on-one tutoring and instruction.

The staff at Shoreline is committed to the unique job of educating young children. Teachers, interventionists and classroom aides have been trained in EL Education which embeds the most recent research about science behind how people learn to read. Students experience the curriculum through a variety of techniques and materials to help each child reach the Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations. Instruction focuses on decoding (how to read and write) and comprehension, using themes that the students enjoy, collaborative discussions and projects, small group and independent activities and engaging books. We utilize Illustrative Math 360 and AVMR (Advantage Math Recovery) to provide a hands-on approach to math instruction. Every adult at Shoreline strives to meet the individual needs of each student by constantly analyzing student work to customize instruction so that every child succeeds.
