Whitehall High School
2010-2011 Annual Education Report
Dear Parents and Community Members:
We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2010-2011 educational progress for the Whitehall High School. The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school’s report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact me at 231-893-1020 for assistance.
The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the links on this page or you may review a copy from the principal’s office at your child’s school.
Whitehall High School is committed to helping every student strive to meet established proficiency expectations in the core content areas, with an emphasis placed on monitoring individual growth and progress. Along with the standard curriculum and respective courses, students enjoy elective offerings, and have access to reading interventions. Many students participate in various clubs, sports and extra- curricular offerings that enrich the educational experience. Ensuring that students reach a level of readiness for academics beyond high school is among the top priorities and indicators of success for the high school staff.
For 2010-2011, Whitehall High School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts and mathematics. While we are pleased to have reached this important goal, we are continuously working to improve. We appreciate the continued support of parents, staff and our community in this effort.
State law requires that we also report additional information:
Process for Assigning Students Within the School:
Whitehall High School students are typically those who either reside within the District’s boundaries, or attend through Schools of Choice. Given the building grade alignments with no overlapping grades, students attend the school that provides educational service for the respective age-grade level . If you are interested in Schools of Choice, you may contact Ingram Medendorp at 231-893-1005.
Continuous School Improvement:
The District’s 21st Century Education Council serves as the district-level team for School Improvement. In addition, each school has a School Improvement Team. In accordance with the Michigan Department of Education’s framework for continuous improvement, the staff works together to conduct data-based needs assessments which identify strengths and weaknesses with the instructional program. From the need assessments, goals and objectives are developed in a detailed plan that is carried out over the course of 3-5 years. The plans are revised and adjusted annually through the School Improvement process. The District continues to build upon the existing Response to Intervention systems that identify students who experience difficulty or are at risk of not meeting grade-level learning targets. Once identified, staff members seek to implement proactive supports and interventions in the appropriate areas.
Accessing the Learning Standards Upon Which Curriculum is Derived:
The Michigan State Board of Education recently adopted new Common Core Standards for K-12 schools. Districts will begin a multi-year transition to these new standards this year.
